Take a refreshing break between two emblematic cities of the Loire Valley. Over two days, follow the royal river along a signposted, flat, and wonderfully scenic route—ideal for a bike trip on a hybrid or electric bike. Castles, riverside villages, vineyard slopes, and stunning views punctuate this easy ride, perfect for couples or friends looking for a gentle adventure.

Day 1

54 km

Nantes → Saint-Florent-le-Vieil

Leaving Nantes, you cycle along the riverside quays and quickly join a shaded greenway heading east. The city gives way to the peaceful banks of the Loire, and the scenery shifts into a slower rhythm.
You pass through Mauves-sur-Loire and climb toward Champtoceaux, a fortified hilltop village offering breathtaking views of the river below.

After a gentle descent, you reach Oudon, watched over by its medieval tower, then ride into Ancenis—a riverside town with a rich trading past. The final stretch follows quiet paths along the water until you reach Saint-Florent-le-Vieil, perched on Mont Glonne. Walk up to the abbey for a magical panorama—especially at sunset.

Day 2

54 km

Saint-Florent-le-Vieil→ Angers

The second day begins smoothly, tracing the river’s flow once more. You pass through Montjean-sur-Loire, a charming town with views of sandbanks and river islands, then cross over to the island of Chalonnes—one of the largest on the Loire, and deeply tranquil.

On the far bank, vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see. You cycle between hillside vines and riverbanks, with a worthwhile detour to the island of Béhuard—a hidden gem of the Loire. In Bouchemaine, the Loire meets the Maine in a stunning natural setting—an ideal spot to rest and take it all in.

The last kilometers to Angers are easy. Once there, wander the historic center, visit the castle, or simply enjoy a glass of local wine on a terrace to celebrate the end of a beautiful bike journey.
