A Day in Bordeaux

Day 1

38 km
Exploring Bordeaux
Start your day on two wheels near the Salinières quays and dive straight into Bordeaux’s rich history, passing the Romanesque Sainte-Croix church—once a Benedictine abbey. Quickly reach the riverside and follow the Garonne, admiring the iconic blond-stone façades. Pause at Place de la Bourse, where the famous water mirror offers a moment of reflection—literally and figuratively.
Continue along the well-marked riverfront paths, past the grand Place des Quinconces, and on to Cap Sciences. If curiosity leads you further, the Cité du Vin is just a few extra pedal strokes away. Cross the Chaban-Delmas bridge, with sweeping views back over the city.
On the right bank, pedal beneath the trees in Parc aux Angéliques and explore the tranquil Botanical Garden. Let yourself be carried by the calm rhythm of this side of the river to Place Stalingrad, watched over by Veilhan’s monumental blue lion. From the quays, follow the trail beneath the majestic Pont de Pierre, and if you’re feeling inspired, climb toward the hills of Bouliac.
Your efforts are well rewarded: peaceful flower-lined lanes, panoramic views over Bordeaux, and local wine estates offer a new perspective on the Gironde. Stop in Carignan, where Château Carignan welcomes you for a cellar visit or wine tasting. A few more kilometers through Bordeaux’s vineyards and you’ll reconnect with the Roger Lapébie bike path, looping back toward the Garonne at Latresne.
The ride winds down gently—legs a bit heavier, heart a bit lighter—as you cross the Saint-Jean bridge back into the soft bustle of the city center. A perfect blend of history, nature, and heritage—powered entirely by the joy of cycling.
