La Loire à Vélo from Angers to Blois

Day 1

68 km
Angers → Saumur
Your journey begins in Angers, a Loire city where the Maine meets the great river. Past Les Ponts-de-Cé, pedal through a landscape of sandbanks, wooded islands, and flower-lined levees.
Along the way, pass through Le Thoureil, a charming riverboat village, then Gennes, where tuffeau cliffs and ancient dolmens hint at a deep-rooted past. Calm reigns here, the Loire wide and regal, offering endless panoramas.
Your day ends in Saumur, where the château rises above the old town, wine cellars invite you in, and the Cadre Noir reflects equestrian tradition. Take in the peaceful air of this elegant town.

Day 2

55 km
Saumur → Langeais
The Loire continues to wind between hills and vineyards. In Turquant, discover a unique troglodyte village carved into the rock. A bit further, the château of Montsoreau stands dramatically by the river.
Make a detour to Fontevraud Abbey, resting place of the Plantagenets, or pass through Candes-Saint-Martin, ranked among the most beautiful villages in France. With vineyards, soft-toned stone, and the confluence with the Vienne River, each bend is postcard-perfect.
Continuing through Bréhémont, you follow the Loire to Langeais, heralded by the imposing silhouette of its medieval château. This quiet riverside town is perfect for a relaxing evening.

Day 3

60 km
Langeais → Amboise
A morning ride brings you to Villandry, famed for its spectacular French gardens. You then follow the Cher River into lively Tours, capital of Touraine. With its historic sites, outdoor cafés, and student buzz, it’s the perfect place for a break.
Beyond Tours, the route leads you through the vineyards of Montlouis-sur-Loire and into Lussault-sur-Loire, where the river takes center stage once again.
The arrival in Amboise is striking: the château towers above the river, and cobbled lanes lead to the Clos Lucé, Leonardo da Vinci’s final home. Enjoy the town’s blend of elegance, history, and easy living.

Day 4

45 km
Amboise → Blois
Your final day follows the Loire through peaceful countryside. In Chaumont-sur-Loire, take time to explore the château and its International Garden Festival—a space where art and nature meet freely.
As you approach Blois, the landscape becomes gently hilly, but remains tranquil, with vineyards, open woods, and grand sleeping estates. Blois welcomes you with its many-faced château, showcasing centuries of architecture.
Wander the old town’s winding streets, visit the House of Magic, or relax on a terrace. You’ve just experienced the Loire à Vélo at its most regal—and most alive.
