La ViaRhôna: From Lyon to Montélimar by Bike
With a hybrid or electric bike rented from Paulette, travel light and embrace the diversity of scenery and culture along this three-day cycling adventure through the heart of France.

Day 1

45 km
Lyon → Serrières
Begin your journey from Paulette’s Lyon agency (71 cours Lafayette), heading south along the Rhône. For a smoother exit from the city, we recommend taking a train to Givors.
Once on the ViaRhôna, make your way to Vienne—a town of art and history. Visit the ancient theater, the Temple of Augustus and Livia, Saint-Maurice Cathedral, and, if it’s Saturday morning, don’t miss the exceptional local market.
Continue toward Condrieu, nestled among the first vineyards of the Rhône Valley. Cross Île au Beurre, a small natural reserve perfect for birdwatching.
End your day in Serrières, after a possible refreshing break at Saint-Pierre-de-Bœuf Lake. This quiet Ardèche village, facing Sablons, is a peaceful stop by the river.

Day 2

62 km
Serrières → Valence
Your ride begins among apricot and cherry orchards, through colorful fields and quiet villages. This stretch of the ViaRhôna is smooth and serene—perfect for soaking in the views.
In Tournon-sur-Rhône, take a break on a sunny terrace, wander the alleyways, or climb to the castle for sweeping views of the Rhône. The southern spirit begins to make itself felt.
Then it’s onward to Valence, a city of art and water. Stroll through the Jouvet Park, explore the old town, and admire Saint-Apollinaire Cathedral. With its riverside vibe and lively cafés, Valence is an ideal place to unwind.

Day 3

58 km
Valence → Montélimar
From Valence, follow the Rhône to the Épervière Port—the largest inland marina in France. The ViaRhôna then winds toward La Voulte-sur-Rhône, with its hilltop castle and iconic suspension bridge.
Pedal through fruit groves, volcanic hills, and postcard-worthy villages. Cross the dramatic Rochemaure bridge, a former Himalayan footbridge now transformed for bikes—an unforgettable ride!
Arrive in Montélimar, a gentle Provençal town. Don’t miss the Jean-Joseph Fleury-Bith public garden, wander among colorful facades, and treat yourself to a taste of nougat—the town’s signature sweet.
