Day 1

Lyon → Trévoux

Pick up your bike at Paulette’s Lyon agency (71 Cours Lafayette). Your journey begins at the confluence point where the Rhône and Saône rivers meet. Ride along the developed riverfront of the Confluence district to the Kitchener-Marchand bridge, crossing to the left bank of the Saône. From there, a dedicated cycle path takes you to the Île Barbe, a historic and picturesque island.

As you follow the river, the scenery becomes increasingly peaceful, leading you to Trévoux. End your day exploring the medieval ramparts of this charming town, accessible via a pedestrian and cycle estacade. Trévoux, once the capital of the Principality of Dombes, is a delightful historical stop.

Day 2

Trévoux → Thoissey

Leaving Trévoux, the route takes you through a peaceful, nature-rich stage. The towpath follows the Saône Valley, offering panoramic views of Beaujolais vineyards.
This pleasant and accessible ride includes many opportunities to pause and enjoy: go kayaking or swim in the Saône, visit riverside castles, or relax at a lively guinguette.

Arriving in Thoissey, admire the Sainte-Madeleine church adorned with frescoes by Sarrabat.
Enjoy a relaxing stroll through the village and its welcoming atmosphere—an ideal blend of heritage, nature, and local cuisine.

Day 3

Thoissey → Mâcon

On your final day, follow the stabilized towpath through the peaceful plains toward Mâcon. This section crosses a Natura 2000 prairie, offering a tranquil setting rich in biodiversity.

At Port de By, cross the pedestrian bridge and follow a protected lane lined with stone walls, leading you to the François-Mitterrand bridge. Once across, continue along the riverfront into central Mâcon.
Explore the city’s highlights: the “Tracé de la Plume” historical walking route, the ornately carved Maison de Bois, the church of Saint-Pierre, and the surrounding vineyards, perfect for a wine-tasting break.
