Lake Ganguise

From Toulouse, hop on a TER Occitanie regional train with your bike and head to Villefranche-de-Lauragais station.
⚠ Be sure to reserve a bike space for both your outbound and return trips—places are limited, especially on weekends.

Right out of the station, you’ll hit quiet country roads winding through the Lauragais hills. After a gentle warm-up, you’ll reach Baraigne, a charming village with a 12th-century Romanesque church—an ideal first break before crossing open fields towards Molleville.

Soon, Lake Ganguise comes into view: a vast expanse of shimmering water surrounded by soft hills and fragrant garrigue. Also known as the Estrade Reservoir, this man-made lake plays a vital role in local irrigation and feeds into the Canal du Midi. Ride along its peaceful shores, among wild thyme, rosemary, and fig trees, serenaded by birdsong. Keep an eye out for egrets, herons, or even a kingfisher darting by.

Pause for a picnic in Cumiùs or near the lakeside activity center—dip your feet in, take a swim, hop on a pedal boat, or simply lounge in the shade. This is your time.

Heading toward Belflou, the landscape begins to resemble a slice of the French Tuscan countryside. The medieval chñteau overlooks the village—sometimes open to visitors if the owner is around. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of the Pyrenees on clear days, before tracing the impressive 400-meter-long dam that closes the lake.

Return to Villefranche-de-Lauragais via scenic ridge roads and peaceful farm lanes, bathed in golden light with panoramic views over gentle hills.

Back at the station, simply board the TER train for your return to Toulouse—bike space reserved, of course—to wrap up a day between water, sky, and the pure joy of cycling.
