Exploring the Loire Estuary from Nantes

Start your journey by picking up your bike from the Paulette shop in Nantes. Follow the Loire River as you gently leave the city behind. Urban streets soon give way to repurposed industrial landscapes.
In Indre, encounter La Serpentine Rouge—a giant red serpent sculpture that winds its way through the water.
Hop aboard the free Loire ferry to Indret, bike and all—a short crossing that’s part of the adventure.

On the south bank, a peaceful bike path leads you through tranquil nature. Pause at La Roche-Ballue, a former quarry turned swimming spot—perfect for a picnic. A bit further on, in Port-Lavigne, look up into the trees: you might spot The Settlers, fantastical tree-dwellers by artist Camille Henrot. An unexpected, dreamlike encounter.

Ride northeast toward Nantes and make a must-stop in Trentemoult—a former fishing village now filled with color and charm. Bohemian vibes abound. Don’t miss Roman Signer’s Giant Pendulum, endlessly swinging with the tide.

Finish your ride along the riverbanks back to Île de Nantes, where the iconic Rings by Daniel Buren await. Drop off your bike at Paulette and carry the art and energy of the estuary with you.
