Nantes
You cannot miss a visit to the city of the Dukes! There is so much to see: the Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul cathedral, the castle of the Dukes of Brittany, the medieval district of Bouffay, the house of the Apothecaries, the Place du Change, the streets of Juiverie, Bâclerie and Sainte-Croix street. We will not tell you more... But what would a visit be without a tasting? The specialities of the region: the small butter, the curé nantais and the muscadet among the most known! Treat yourself!
The Loire estuary
You leave the bustling city of Nantes and after pedaling about fifty kilometers, you reach the Loire estuary. In the past, the maritime activity here was intense. Today the place is calm, wild and fragile at the same time. Since 2007, the banks of the Loire estuary have been home to a collection of contemporary works by artists from around the world! You will certainly see a house in the Loire or a starry garden...
The Poitevin Marsh
From Niort, in the east, to the Bay of Aiguillon, in the west, there are 110 000 hectares of exceptional biodiversity. This labyrinth of canals shelters, in addition to hundred-year-old trees and European otters, nearly 250 species of birds, about 40 species of fish, 60 species of dragonflies, 80 species of butterflies and 126 floral species! The marsh is made up of three parts:
La Rochelle
Once again, a visit to La Rochelle is a must! Go to the terraces of its famous towers, remnants of the city's fortifications, from where you can admire the roofs of the old town, the port, its boats and its channel, the Ferris wheel... A real postcard view! A little historical aside: the Saint-Nicolas and Lantern towers were used as detention places for foreigners and Huguenots between the 16th and 18th centuries, then as military prisons in the 19th century; while the Chain tower monitored the movements of boats, traffic and collected duties and taxes. Do not miss strolling through the streets of the city, on the quays of the Gabut, the old fishermen's district with its colorful houses, and strolling on the Old Port while enjoying an ice cream! Visit the Palais de Justice, the Henri II house, the cloisters of the Dames Blanches... Also discover the France 1, a meteorological frigate, and climb on the deck of a trawler or a harbor tugboat!
Rochefort
An eminently maritime city, which has preserved its architecture and buildings. Home port of the Hermione, a former French warship, Rochefort is also home to the former royal rope factory and the arsenal. If you want to know more about its fascinating history, visit the National Navy Museum and the former Naval Medical School. Royal city, museum city, spa city, Rochefort is also a nature city thanks to its marshes, lagoons, gardens, and conservatories. To finish, do not miss a trip to the ferry bridge. This ingenious system made up of a fixed and a mobile part allows, by means of a gondola, to link the two banks without disturbing the maritime traffic on the Charente.
The islands of Noirmoutier, Ré and Oléron
Three unique islands just a few pedal strokes away from the Vélodyssée trails! Take advantage of your presence on the route to visit them!

Learn more about the history of the city thanks to Royan museum, which traces the eventful destiny of Royan, twice destroyed and three times rebuilt. Do not miss the sunset with a stroll along the waterfront. For the adventurous, you will have the opportunity to visit the Cordouan lighthouse, at the mouth of the Garonne estuary.
Bordeaux
We could not leave out of this top 10 the inevitable wine capital of the world, which is also one of the most beautiful cities in France. After all, part of Bordeaux is a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Take a walk along the quays of the Garonne and reach the water mirror, the esplanade of the Quinconces and the rue Sainte-Catherine. Gastronomy & Experiences
The important thing in an adventure is to enjoy yourself, so we close this top 10 with this little reminder.
