Have you decided to travel the many kilometres of the canal linking Nantes to Brest? Paulette suggests 5 activities to do along this fastidious project initiated by Napoleon Bonaparte. Get out of the saddle and get away from your bike for a while.

 

Rejuvenate at Ile aux Pies.

 A listed site "remarkable of inland Brittany" where the Oust river wanders between the granite cliffs, come and do some climbing on one of the most famous sites in Brittany! Located in Bains-sur-Oust and Saint Vincent sur Oust, 80 km from Nantes by bike, you can discover the Maclais lock on foot, by bike, by boat or even by kayak!  You can eat on site, and even stay a few days thanks to the nearby campsites.

Enjoy an immersive open-air experience at the "village in the pictures".

 Cycle to La Gacilly via the canal to attend the La Gacilly Photo Festival, which offers an immersive, wandering experience in the heart of some thirty open-air galleries and discover the best of contemporary photography spread throughout the town.  Each year, a double theme is developed combining a creation specific to a country or a continent and a societal and environmental issue. Come and meet the artists and discover their works around the North, this year's theme, and change your view of the world!From 1 July to 31 October 2021, free of charge and accessible to all.

 

Attend a horse race

Arriving in Ploërmel by bike, come and bet on the horse you think will win or simply attend a race to discover the sport of horse-racing.Renowned for its sumptuous setting and famous for its obstacle course, the Malleville racecourse is talked about well outside Brittany! At the beginning of September, come and watch the 21 different events organised by the racecourse (trotting, gallop, steeplechase and cross-country). However, outside of the race periods, it is a quiet and wooded area suitable for walks.

 

Attend a renowned festival!

Every year, the Kerampuilh meadow, well known to festival goers, hosts the Vieilles Charrues festival in Carhaix-Plouguer. In just a few years, it has become one of the most popular festivals in Europe. This open-air festival, which is run mainly by volunteers, offers a cheap entry fee and a popular and eclectic programme, always with a touch of Breton music! 

Discover Brest as you have never seen it before!

At the end of the journey, you can leave your bikes behind and take the cable car to discover the city in an original way! Very easy to access thanks to the departures every 5 minutes at certain times of the day and the different lines, discover Brest from another angle! Works with a bus and tram ticket.

 

The little extra! On leaving Nantes towards Nort-sur-Erdre, stop at 55 ruelle Tassin in Sucé-sur-Erdre. A resident of the village has dedicated his life to making his house the home of Snow White! A project initiated in 1994, today the house and the surrounding park have been designed, imagined and recreated in the image of Snow White's world and every square metre refers to it!
